Sideloading fails due to a dependency 0x80073CF3

    Question

  • I'm trying to side load a Windows 8 app in order for my team to test on various devices before publishing to the Store. I am using the instructions on the following page to side load the app.

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sbrand/archive/2014/01/07/windows-8-1-side-load-your-apps-onto-your-test-device.aspx

However, I ran into a snag. When I attempted to install the app, the following error appears in the Powershell command prompt. What does this mean and how do I resolve the issue?

Add-AppxPackage : Deployment failed with HRESULT: 0x80073CF3, Package failed updates, dependency or conflict
    validation.
Windows cannot install package [packageID] because this package depends on another package
that couldn't be found. This package requires minimum version 12.0.21005.1 of framework Microsoft.VCLibs.120.00.Debug
published by any publisher to install; the frameworks with name Microsoft.VCLibs.120.00.Debug available to the user
are Microsoft.VCLibs.120.00.Debug_12.0.21005.1_x86__8wekyb3d8bbwe. Provide the correct framework along with this
    package.

  • I compiled the app using the release version instead of the debug version and that seems to have fixed the issue. I can now sideload the app.

  • Looks like you need to include the vclibs in your project.
