XLSB BrtUid record type not defined RRS feed

  • Question

  • This comment refers to the current version of the [MS-XLSB] specification (9.3, dated 12/12/2017).

    Under section 2.1.8 Common Productions, the ACUID sequence fragment references BrtUid:

        ACUID = BrtACBegin BrtUid BrtACEnd

    However, this record type is not defined in the spec.  In fact, that is the only instance of "BrtUid" in the document!

    Based on a sample file, it appears to have record number 3072 (0x0C00) and is 16 bytes long.  A reasonable guess would be that it encodes a 16-byte GUID.

    Would it be possible to update the specification?  In addition, are there any new records added since the last update?

  • Hello Sheet JS,

    Thank you for your patience as your question was investigated.

    As you have deduced the BrtUid record type of the ACUID field is a 16 byte GUID. The GUID is the GUID associated with a specific User. User information, including the GUID, is contained in BrtUsr a record type in the User Names part, which is documented in section 2.1.7.55.

    We have issued a request to have the documentation updated to include the BrtUid record type definition.

    Sincerely,
    Will Gregg | open specifications
