Icons for groups added to the quick access toolbar (QAT) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am creating a new toolbar for Excel using Visual Studio 2008 and the visual designer for the ribbon tab.

My coworker has used a version of this toolbar and added two of the groups to his QAT.  They both had the green circle icon.  He was wondering if there was a way to apply a different icon to the group.

How could I go about adding this icon?  I have attempted to search for the answer; however, I have not come across anything.  Is this even possible in custom tabs (anotherwords, is is only possible with Microsoft-created groups)?

    Thank you for your help!

  • From the look of it, you'd need to convert your Ribbon Designer to Ribbon XML (which will involved changes in the code the buttons call into as you can no longer take advantage of the way VSTO encapsulates the Ribbon controls so that you can work with them like Windows Forms controls). In the Ribbon XML it's possible to provide an Image or getImage attribute in order to assign an icon to a Group.
