  • Question

  • I did a migration from access to sql and as far as my understanding goes I start with a .mdb file and end up with a .mdf file. Can't find the .mdf file though. Will someone out  there please get me out of my missery. Regards

  • The MDF file is not a stand alone concept.  The migration creates a SQL Server database, therefore what was the instance you created the database on?

On that instance check out the database path, thats where the MDF and LDF file for the database will be.

    SELECT *
      FROM [DBNAME].sys.sysfiles

Try that statement, replace the DBName inside a SQL Server Management Studio against the server whee you migrated you Access Database to.

If you did it against SQL Server Express on your local computer most likely the file is located in ...

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\Data\
