Error installing SQL Server 2014

    Question

  • I had multiple instances of SQL Server installed. I wanted to uninstall all of them, and only re-install 2014 so that it could be the default instances. After uninstalling 2014 and 2008 R2, I then tried to install the full version of SQL 2014. However, in the installation process I get this error:

    The following error has occurred:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.ATL,version="8.0.50727.6229",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="amd64",type="win32"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x800736B5.

After pressing OK, the installing appears to begin rollback, but then another error appears:

    The following error has occurred:

SQL Server Setup has encountered an error when running a Windows Installer file.

Windows Installer error message: An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.ATL,version="8.0.50727.6229",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="amd64",type="win32"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x800736B5.

    Windows Installer file: E:\1033_ENU_LP\x64\setup\sqlsupport_msi\SqlSupport.msi

    Windows Installer log file: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\120\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20170209_184104\SqlSupport_Cpu64_1.log

Click 'Retry' to retry the failed action, or click 'Cancel' to cancel this action and continue setup.

This error has a Retry button, but all that does is tries continuing the installation, which causes the first error to occur again.

Can someone help me with this please?

    Thank you,
