NetAddShare function fails on Windows 2008 Server when logged in as a user who is a member of Administrator group. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I want to create a shared folder using NetAddShare api on Windows 2008 Server. I have logged in as a user who is a member of Administrator group.
But the function is failing with the following error.
" Error 1: No additional description available for this system error."
The return value of this function is "Access Denied".
The reason could be that, we require Administrative privileges for doing the same, the elevation is not happening and it just errors out..
Is there a way where we can get prompts for elevation when NetAddShare function is called (or) any other alternative way for creating a share  successfully without using NetAddShare function.
