Possible for a mobile app to talk to a Win8 app? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible for me to create a mobile app (perhaps even something in the browser) that allows me to talk with my local Win8 machine?

I'd like to be able to have my mobile device send commands to Win8, such as play video, FF, Rew, etc., similar to how Smart Glass works with Xbox.

  • Windows Store apps cannot communicate back to or control the local machine.

You could write a desktop app to control the local machine and connect to it from a Windows Store app, Windows Phone app, browser app, etc. on another machine. I believe this is what Smart Glass does: it exposes a service from the Xbox which remote apps can connect to.
