Blend for VS2015 creating awful bug

    Question

  • HI,

I see that everything is really dead in here. But thought, hey, I would post something anyway.

Blend for VS2015 is currently creating a really awful defect, that is incredibly hard to track down because of the dreaded error messages.

The only error that shows at runtime (or design time) states that the "[Unknown]" element is trying to run.

It appears that the designer can create a storyboard on state, pointing to an element that does not existing in the object graph or try to modify a property such as opacity. In this instance, the error is caused by a "Dissabled" state storyboard trying to modify the opacity of a rectangle that is not in the style or control template.

Just thought someone should know about it.

The follow error is actually a result of switching off the "Tools->Options->XAML Designer->Run Project Code in XAML Designer option.

As you can see - totally unhelpful.

I've given up thinking that things will be fixed in Blend, so have stopped asking for changes. What I can't stop myself from saying is that whomever decided to make the Blend UI the same as VS, and worse still to make the colour scheme the same, needs to be fired. Blend will never be VS and all you have done is alienate users who worked in Blend, and confused dev's who never looked at it in the first place.

    Cheers

  • I'm not sure why it has been moved over C# forum this question.

There was an update release on VS 2015 recently that you may want to get (if you didn't):

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/visualstudio/archive/2015/11/30/visual-studio-update-1-rtm.aspx

Or you can report it as a bug:

  • Hi Fouad,

This has been moved because there is no longer a forum for Blend.

These issues are created by Blend 2015 - but the assumption is that since that team is now part of the VS team that it should all be looked at here.

Here is another example of stupidity of the errors and how they break lots of things, for lots of people:

As far as reporting this on connect as a bug - been down that road lots of times, only to have no one respond to it, or not take the time to repro correctly.

    Have a nice day.

    Cheers

  • Hi Brennon ,

    >>This has been moved because there is no longer a forum for Blend.

Since Blend belongs to VS, I moved your case to Visual Studio General Questions forum for better support.

    Best regards,

    Kristin

  • Hi Brennon,

    >>cannot resolve assembly Microsoft.Pratices.ServiceLocation.Version=1.3.0.0...

I met this kind of error warning before which was related to the assemblyBinding, maybe you could Use an assembly binding redirect.

  • Hi Jack,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, this the result of the Nuget packet manager installation. Nothing much I can do about it. Just live with the pain of running code in the design surface.

    Cheers

  • Hi Brennon Williams,

Which kind of app did you really create? Whether it has the same issue in other VS2015 machine?

Could you share me a simple project sample? So I could test it in my side using the VS2015 blend.

Actually this forum is to discuss the VS IDE, I think we have to make sure that whether it is related to the Blend/VS Environment or the project itself.

Please also attach your Visual Studio project, you can upload it to the one drive, and then share the download link in your post. Please also attach a screenshot image in your post.

    Best Regards,

    Jack
