Error creating a Test Project RRS feed

  • Question

  • I get following error everytime I try to create a new Test Project:

    ---------------------------
    Microsoft Visual Studio
    ---------------------------
    Failed to get service ITestToolSettingsManager.
    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------

    I am currently running Visual Studio 2010 Feature Pack 2 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

    I have also tried following with no avail:

    • Run VS under admin mode
    • Reset VS settings by going to Tools --> Import and Export Settings
    • Run "devenv \setup" --> this fails
    • Run "devenv \InstallTFSTemplates"
    • Run "devenv \ResetSettings" --> this fails

    Your help in resolving is much appreciated.

    Kind regards,
    HM

  • Are you running Dev11 on the same machine? Apparently there is a side-by-side installation issue... Got this from a MVP:

    1)      File->New -> Project ->Test Projects(Under Installed Templates)->Test Documents.  Can you confirm if the path you  took to create test project is also same as the above ?   “Failed to get service ITestToolSettingsManager” is being observed as an error message.

    2)      File -> New -> Project ->Visual C# -> Test-> Test Project works for you. (Creation of project in this path works for us). Please verify and confirm

    3)      Test->New Test->Create a new testProject as mentioned by you also works for us.

  • Hi HM,

    Whether you could create a project before?
    If you open your VS in the safe mode, whether it has the same issue?
    Have you tried repairing setup?

    Thanks,

  • I'm experiencing the exact same problem. I dont have any featurepack installed but otherwise same system setup.

    I have tried the same things as Hemal and I have also done a repair of my VS2010 installation. I still get this error :(
