Views Having Access to Base Tables RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an issue I hope someone can resolve here.  Lets say I have a table with 3 columns:  A, B, and a UserClassID as the third column.  I'd like to create a view in which I basically do a select * on the table, but add a where clause (where UserClassID = 1, for example).

What I want to be able to do is grant select to the view to a user, and grant select to the view to access the table.  This way, the user cannot go against the base table directly.

Can this be done with SQL Server 2005?  If not, how would I implement row-level security like this?
