Win XP Pro Runing on AMD 64 CPU & WinDbg RRS feed

  • Question

    Hi y'all

I need to work on a friend's machine, it is

    3 years old,

    CPU is  AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+

    Version: x86 Family 15 Model 15 Steping 0

    2GB Ram

    Win OS installed by vendor.

Microsoft Windows XP Professional, version: 5.1.2600, Service Pack 2.0

    My Questions:

    (1) is there a differerence between XP Pro & XP Pro 64 bit (or is this just XP running on a 64 bit machine)?

    (2) How do I verify she is running XP Pro OR XP Pro 64 bit?

    (3) IF her platform is what I think, (XP Pro x86 w/ SP2 running on AMD 64 CPU), which WinDgb do I need to install (32 or 64 bit version)?

The WinDbg MSDN webpage is unclear.  It says the 32 bit is fine for most folks, but if you have 64 bit architecture then load the 64 bit, but use the 32 bit symbols file???   Do I need to worry about the CPU architecture or the OS ?

  • You're definitely asking the quesiton in the wrong forum here.  Try the Operating systems forums, and more specifically probably Windows XP.

This forum is centred of architectures of new software solutions.

    Good luck,
