How to doOutlook Add-In Deployment RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can any one tell me a good site to learn how to deploy outlook Ad-In successfully.

Actually i found it in this URL: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc563937.aspx.

I done according to that then i got error like

    ************** Exception Text **************

    System.Deployment.Application.DeploymentDownloadException: Downloading file:///C:/Documents and Settings/e561158/Application Data/htsl/outlookSetup/Application Files/FirstApp_1_0_0_0/FirstApp.dll.manifest did not succeed. ---> System.Net.WebException: Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Documents and Settings\e561158\Application Data\htsl\outlookSetup\Application Files\FirstApp_1_0_0_0\FirstApp.dll.manifest'. ---> System.Net.WebException: Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Documents and Settings\e561158\Application Data\htsl\outlookSetup\Application Files\FirstApp_1_0_0_0\FirstApp.dll.manifest'. ---> System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Documents and Settings\e561158\Application Data\htsl\outlookSetup\Application Files\FirstApp_1_0_0_0\FirstApp.dll.manifest'.

    ************************************************************************************

I added manifest file and VSTO also. A person said to check registry value of manifest.

I had given it like [TargetDir]FirstApp.vsto|vstolocal. I think that is the error, i should give some folderpath in [TargetDir]. I changed it as C:\Program Files\MyVSTOAddIn\FirstApp.vsto|vstolocal. Should we create folder"MyVSTOAddIn" or it creates it.

My apllication name is "FirstApp" and setup name is "outlookSetup".

FirstApp revision number is changed to FirstApp1_0_0_4 before i done the above change.

After doing that change i done build "outlookSetup" it is showing error like:

Error : Unable to find source file 'D:\sunil\app\FirstApp\bin\Release\app.publish\Application Files\FirstApp_1_0_0_0\FirstApp.dll.manifest' for file 'FirstApp.dll.manifest', located in '[TARGETDIR]', the file may be absent or locked.    D:\sunil\app\outlookSetup\outlookSetup.vdproj    outlookSetup.

Please help me i am in very confusion and i am very new to Add-Ins.

  • Hi bvsk,

Thanks for posting in the MSDN Forum.

Your description has confused me. For the path which you provided I think there must exist a Click Once deployment on your side. And I found the setting of create a Visual Studio Install file in your description too. I think you might mix some ideas between those two deployment ways.

I think determining what you want is the first steps to solve your issue. Do you want to distribute your project via Click Once or msi setup? I would recommend you use Click Once. It’s simple to create. It only need click right mouse button on solution explorer and select Publish button on menu then follow the wizard to complete create the deployment. The contents of the “publish” folder in your project is a completely dome of a Click Once application. There has a detailed description: http://developers.de/blogs/damir_dobric/archive/2009/02/12/publishing-of-outlook-2007-addin-with-clickonce-and-vs2008.aspx. It can be distributed between computers to install your project. If you want to create a msi file to distribute your project I would recommend you take a look at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc563937(office.12).aspx. Or http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vsto/ff937654.aspx.

I hope it can help you.

    Have a good day,

    Tom
