  • Hi TomBath,

    Welcome to the MSDN Forum.

What kind of film you want to play, generally, the media player can open the following type file:

Windows Media formats (.asf, .wma, .wmv, .wm)

Windows Media Metafiles (.asx, .wax, .wvx, .wpl)

    Microsoft Digital Video Recording (.dvr-ms)

    Windows Media Download Package (.wmd)

    Audio Visual Interleave (.avi)

Moving Pictures Experts Group (.mpg, .mpeg, .m1v, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .mpe, .mpv2, .m3u)

    And so on.

For more formate, please take a look at this article:Information about the Multimedia file types that Windows Media Player supports

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316992/en-us

I hope this will be helpful.

    Best regards,
