Silverlight 5 installation on Metro interface RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Loving Win8.  I have an issue with Silverlight.  I opened IE on the Metro UI and went to the Expression website.  It told me I need it Silverlight.  I click to install the plugin and it took me to the desktop interface.  It installed it, but when I go back to the Metro IE it still says it needs to install Silverlight.

If I go to IE on the Desktop it works fine.

My question is why if I am on the Metro IE it has to take me to the Desktop.  It should do everything in my Metro UI which I love so much.

I had the same problem with Adobe Flash.

I encountered looping lists in this page and somewhere in the Windows 8 interface.  I think it is confusing because the user does not know when it reached the last option because the list is cycling.

    Thanks,

    J

  • Hi J,

Plugins (ActiveX controls) are not available in Metro IE.  You need to use Desktop IE for sites that use Silverlight and Flash.

ActiveX controls in general are not supported in Metro style apps (nor in the Metro style browser, as described here, though they do work in the desktop IE). The few that are allowed are built into Windows and are listed here
