Problem with renewing the Developer Licence in Visual Studio 2015 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

My developer licence associated with Visual studio got expired yesterday. When I tried to renew the licence, it is processing for a while and throws a script error stating that an error has occurred in the script on the page "https://auth.gfx.ms/16.000.26709.00/DefaultLogin_Pcore.js". It is asking whether to continue running scripts. (Not able to attach screenshot)

It is ending up not showing the login window. Not sure if this is an issue with my machine. I do not have any proxy or firewall restrictions in my system.

Because of this issue, I'm not able to run applications, as this box keeps prompting for renewal.

Any suggestions on this would greatly help.

    Thanks

  • Hi all,

Welcome to the MSDN forum and sorry for this inconvenience.

Since all of you meet the same issue when you try to renew the developer license, and it looks like there has issue during this renew progress. When I tried to report this to the Visual Studio through VS-Help-Send Feedback-Report a Problem…and I found other community member already posted it like the following:

Please click “Me Too” to vote this problem if you also met this issue, then we need to wait for the response from the Visual Studio Product Team, thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Sara

  • Looks like it's fixed today.

I was getting this error for the last 10 days, I tried again this morning and it worked fine - I made no changes at my end (just reran Show-WindowsDeveloperLicenseRegistration) so it appears to be an issue on Microsoft's servers.

I'm glad it's fixed - just wish they had been a bit more proactive at communicating what was going on while the issue was outstanding.

  • It seems like the Licencing server has some issues. Not sure when MS would get it resolved.

Its been 2 weeks now trying to get the developer licence same problem. Has anyone figured out what could be the problem or should we escalate to MS?

    Thanks

  • Hi all,

One quick fix that worked for me was to install a new version of Visual studio and associate the same Dev account. That worked fine. But I tried it in a different machine though. Not sure how it'd workout with same machine. Surprisingly, it is not yet resolved from MS side..!!!

  • Temp Fix by editing registry  until its resolved

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\appx]
    "AllowAllTrustedApps"=dword:00000001
    "AllowDevelopmentWithoutDevLicense"=dword:00000001

Restart Visual Studio/Restart Computer(optional if it didn't work without it)

  • Hi Sara

Can we have someone from the dev team to look at this? Along with hundreds of developers, I could see a lot of other organizations who are using in-house apps are also stuck because they are unable to sideload any app as of now.

Please expedite its fixing and let us know the exact timeline.

    Thanks

  • Same problem here, on Windows Server 2012 R2.

    Any workaround?

  • Thanks for doing that, Sara. I just voted that in too, it's up to 30 votes. I also sent following message to VS support team hoping to raise visibility on the issue:

An answer or fix to why I keep getting a Script Error when clicking 'I Agree' to the Terms of Service for getting a Developer License for Windows 8.1. The URL is auth.gfx.ms/16.000.26709.00/DefaultLogin_PCore.js. Please help ASAP. Many other devs have asked for help in recent days, no one has responded. • Did not work for me. You have to apply a hotfix before those settings are available:

    KB Article Number(s): 2871280

    Language: All (Global)

    Platform: x64

    Location: (http://hotfixv4.microsoft.com/Windows%208%20RTM/nosp/Fix453329/9200/free/465905_intl_x64_zip.exe)

Besides that this obviously only works in a domain setting.

  • Try deleting the temp files under your user:

    C:\users\<username>\AppData\temp

Note: AppData is hidden by default

  • Try updating the licence under Account Settings. It worked for me.
