Background playback and recording

    Question

  • Is it possible to perform audio recording as a background task?  Also, is it possible to suspend a device's power management during background recording so that it does not turn off?

  • Hello,

It is possible to perform audio recording as a background task. The device's power management will react accordingly once your background recording task has been registered correctly.

Take a look at this sample for more information:

    Windows Audio Session (WASAPI) sample

    I hope this helps,

  • I actually tested the WASAPI audio example.  When I went to the start screen in the middle of either recording or playback, it appeared that either operation suspended after a few seconds.  Is there something else I need to do?

Also, there is a second question on power management.  Ideally, while recording, I would like to prevent a computer to turn off.  By default the Surface and many other computers have power management settings which turn them off after two minutes of activity.  I would like for someone to be able to start recording, and for the device not to turn off if they leave it for several minutes or even an hour while recording.
