Windows Phone store beta option in new unified store

    Question

  •  Hi All,

We have ran into a grave problem and solicit your inputs very urgently.

We have developed a windows 8.1 universal application. We wanted to go for the phone store beta testing approach.

But now we see our account has been migrated to new unified store.

It does not seem to have beta testing mode ( is my understanding correct ) ?

Now how do we go ahead with our beta approach. ?

Please note migrating to Windows 10 is not an option currently for us.

    Would really appreciate responses.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Saurav

  • There is an option under "Pricing and Availability"  called "Distribution and Visibility" that allows you to distribute to a closed group. I think that's the option you need

    Description:

Hide this app in the Store. Only customers with the email addresses you enter below can download it, via a direct link on Windows Phone 8.1 and earlier.

  • Thanks a lot for the reply.

But this does not essentially replace the beta functionality right ?

In this case the app will be released in full blown mode but will be restricted.

    cheers,

  • Hello SauravS,

In order to publish a beta app you will need to select "Hide this app in the store.  Only customers with the email addresses you enter below can download it, via a direct link on Windows Phone 8.1 and earlier."  This is the new beta option in Dev Center.

  • Thanks a ton Miles for your reply.

    Just one more query.

    Have following scenario.

    1. I publish my phone version now in restricted mode
    2. Probably iterate couple of times in restricted mode
    3. Attach the tablet version to the same app name in restricted mode later.
    4. Iterate couple of phone and tablet versions in restricted mode again.
    5. Decided to go with full blown version for both tablet and phone in unrestricted mode.

Will the above scenario work. ? If not which step can fail ?

    Best Regards,
    Saurav
