Cross Site Collection Lookup Column RRS feed

  • Question

  • We need a lookup column that looks up a value in a list on another site collection.  Basically, our document center is in one site collection.  For one of the departments, we need to associate the documents in the document center to a project.  Projects are stored in that department's site in a different site collection.  How do I create a lookup that crosses site collections?

It's not a general question unless you are asking how to use a thrid-party product (and only then if the maker's support people aren't helping you) (From:SharePoint - General Question and Answers and Discussion (pre-SharePoint 2010

  • If you can't create these under the same site collection you'll be looking at some custom work for this, probably via custom fields.  Have a look at these: -

Or a third party product that'll do it is noted below.  I wasn't able to see anything on CodePlex: -

  • We have a 3rd party tool that handles cross-site lookups (www.sharepointboost.com).  What we need is a lookup to cross site collections.  We have a developer on staff, so if we need to use custom code, that is fine.  We just need some direction on how to do it.

  • SharePoint Boost are (or at least were - I've not seen them spamming for a while) well-known spammers.

The use of their products is not therefore recommended.

  • Hello Mike,

What exactly do you mean with 'spammers'?

We have a couple of products from SharePointBoost. Until now it works good (in SP2007). Only now we have problems with the cross-site lookup in SharePoint 2010. Until now we don't have a solution for it...

They were advertising spammers - i.e. every single post they made proposed the use of a SharePoint Boost product. Typically without disclosing that they worked for SharePoint Boost and mostly with texts that gave the impression that they didn't.
