Bing maps geocoding inconsistency: REST API Vs. browser. RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I use the address: 205 HERITAGE DR SE 1403,CALGARY AB,CN and try to geocode using the browser, it gives the lat/lng: 50.97941, -114.0672. It smartly interprets the country as Canada instead of China (CN is ISO code for China.)
But when I use the same address to get the lat/lng using the REST API(query=205+HERITAGE+DR+SE+1403,CALGARY+AB,CN), it fails to geocode. Can somebody throw some light on this please?
    Thanking you in advance.

Answers

  • This is currently expected. The bing maps team has a new backend geocoding platform that it is testing on the website. Once it passes quality control tests the rest services will be updated on the backend to use this new geocoder. This will likely happen in early 2017. When this happens the rest service will be seamlessly updated and you won't need to make any code changes.
