Uninstalling Expression Media on a MAC (bdill66) 2/6/2008 1:38 PM PST RRS feed

  • Question

  • By: bdill66
Does anyone know how to uninstall expression media installed on a mac? We
downloaded a trail version and installed it only to find out we had an
earlier version we could install and use. We want to use the earlier edition
so others on campus can view the media.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

  •   Hello Jens,

I haven't seen anything like the keyword issue you reported. Nor is there anything in our database about it. Does that happen on any and all existing catalogs?

Exporting annotation to original should be available, though that depends on the file format. If you take a look in the help files, it tells you which formats will and will not export.

Finally, you can run 1.0 and 2 Beta alongside each other on the same machine. You can't run them at the same time, though. You need to close one version before opening the other.

    Hope this helps,

Here is what I previously posted:

Hum..... I opened the .pkg installer through Pacifist and there is a lot
more than that that is installed.....

in addition to the Application folder in /Applications I see:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info
    Panels/.Expression Media.txt

    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info
    Panels/Expression Media.txt

    /Library/Application Support/Expression Media

    /Library/Application Support/Nikon/Profiles:
    Nk0080.lns
    NKAdobe.icm
    NkCBoost.nlc
    NKCMYK.icm
    NKD1_NEF.icm
    NKDBase_NEF.icm
    NKGrayG18.icm
    NKGrayG22.icm
    NKLab.icm
    NKLch2.icm
    NkLchCal.nla
    NkLchCal.nlc
    NKNTSC.icm
    NKsRGB.icm
    r123.lns

    /Library/Contextual Menu Items/ExpressionMediaCM.plugin

    /Library/Spotlight/ExpressionMediaCatalogImporter.mdimporter

and the .pkg receipt in /Library/Receipts of course.

In addtion, there are the multiple files and catalogs in your user
    account.

This is not a simple drag and drop appplication.....

Drag the Expression Media application's folder to the trash. Trash the Hard
Drive>Library>Receipts>Expression Media.pkg file. Then install the older
    version.

So you mean that the Application Support files, the Spotlight mdimporter
and the CM item can be skipped without consequences?

    Hi Corentin,

As you have mentioned, Expression Media does install several dependent
files in different locations such as CM, spotlight mdimporter and
manufacturers libraries (for Canon, Nikon and Kodak) etc. However when
re-installing the application it will update all these files if there is
any version difference (and doesn't update if those undeleted files are
same version or latest version as the one that are being installed). The
major core files like Unix executable and other files are located inside
the application package. So far we haven't seen any issues uninstalling the
latest version and re-installing older version in this way. Please post us
if you have seen any issues using this method for uninstall/reinstall.

  • hi,

i also have an issue with the 2 versions.
i installed the beta version first, then the SP1 trial version in addition, as we wanted to work around the lacking html-gallery in the beta.
now i want to use the beta and i figured that i cannot choose to "export to original"when syncing annotations, only importing is available.
apart from that, it seems that on another comp with the beta version installed imported pics have a cryptical "rel-b 46748648" in the keywords tab instead of the actual keywords typed in before.
are any of these problems feasable for you?

    thanks,
    jens
