Cannot open solution in Blend 3 Preview - Data at the root level is invalid. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am unable to open our solution files in Blend 3 Preview.  The error that I am getting is:

"There was an error opening <solution name>:
Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1."

I am working on Vista and I have tried running as administrator and that did not help.
The solution does have TFS source control bindings if that matters.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I am a bit disappointed that I can't actually try this out!

    Thanks,
    Brent

  • This is really case by case, but for Brent's case, the solution contained a database project that caused issues - removing the project from the solution fixed the problem. We will fix this bug for the next release.

    Sorry for the inconvenience!

  • Hey Brent,

    Sorry about that!

    Some questions:
    a) Does the solution open fine in Blend 2 SP1?
    b) What happens if you were to remove the binding? Does it work?

If you could just send me the solution file (if source control is the culprit, that is all we need to fix this issue), that would be great! You can email it to me at unnir at microsoft dot com.

    Thanks!

  • The solution works fine in Blend 2 SP1; I use it every day.

Removing the source control binding didn't resolve this.

I will email the solution file to you.

    Thanks,
    Brent

  • Just FYI I have noticed this same problem if you have a Setup project in your solution (a .vdproj)

Removing the setup project appears to resolve the issue.

The same solution (with the setup project included) works from in Blend 2 SP 1

  • Sorry about that! All these issues should be fixed in the upcoming release of Blend.

    Thanks,
