Azure storage is iaas or paas and why? RRS feed

All replies

  • Azure storage is IAAS type of service. With that, you don't have to worry about infrastructure. We just have to create a storage account and use it. No need to worry on where the data is getting stored, hard disk failure, backups, high availability etc. So Azure is managing all the infrastructure behind the scene, thus Azure storage it is Infra-as-a service.

Yes, while using Azure storage, we don't manage Servers, Networks, Availability etc. In short, we don't manage Infrastructure and it is managed by Azure. So Azure storage is Infra-as-a-service offering by Microsoft.

There are few services where we don't have to worry about Infrastructure as well as platform (for development, deployment etc). In short, both infra and platform for development activities are management by Azure. These services would fall under Platform-as-a-service.
E.g. Apps related, Database management related services (You get Infra + SQL installation/deployment managed by Azure)

  • With reference to example of SQL Azure (You get Infra + SQL installation/deployment managed by Azure), How storage queues or blobs are different?

  • Store your files and they are treated appropriately. Here are the 4 service types: ... Page blobs & disks: Used to store Azure VM files (virtual hard disks in the VHD format – VHDX is not supported). Tables & Queues: NoSQL storage for unstructured and semi-structured data, and very much a PaaS thing.
