ADO Connection Error: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified RRS feed

  • Hi All,

    Error Message - "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified"
    Tools: Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 Pro
    Application: ASP.NET2.0 (v2.0.50727, x86)
    Platform: Windows 7 SP1 64bits, IIS7.5
    Database: Oracle10gR2 32bits
    Data Connectivity Driver: System.Data.OracleClient
    Connection String: <add key="DBCS" value="SERVER=myDB;UID=USER;PWD=password;"/>
               <add key="DBCS" value="Data Source=myDB;User Id=USER;Password=password;"/>

    Tried:
    1. Install ODP.NET 32bit / 64bit, OracleClient 10g 32bit, OracleClient 11g 64bit
    2. Set environment variable TNS_ADMIN to D:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN, point to tnsname.ora
    3. tnsping myDB, return ok.
    4. Reproduce tnsnames.ora is by Oracle Net Manager.
    5. Set D:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN as Everyone read permission
    6. Replace tnsname with server one.

  • Dear Paul,

    After inspection, System.data.oracleclient is deprecated, and i called OracleClient software, to solve this issues, I just use a updated 32bit OracleClient.

  • I don't think we're going to be able to help you with a Oracle Client configuration in this forum. I would recommend posting to an Oracle forum (https://community.oracle.com/welcome).

    You may also want to Google/Bing the error message. There can be quite a few possibilities.
