Weak and Regular Entity Relationships RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

When designing a database, many modeling tools differentiate between weak and regular entity relationships. I was wondering why this is done because as far as the implementation is concerned both are implemented as primary and foreign keys.

My point is that whether a relationship is weak or strong is lost at the implemenation layer because all relationships are implemented the same way.

So why bother at all in identifying the type of the relationship?
