Getting an error in SSRS Report Viewer RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am getting an error in SSRS Report Viewer after selecting parameters: "Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: An unknown error occurred while processing the request on the server. The status code returned from the server was: 500"

Report is not rendering the data and it shows up in the status bar of IE, what could be the reason?

BTW it is SSRS 2008 R2.

  • You have a generic error message that is difficult to help with unless we can see the report and how it is created

What have you already tried to try to figure it out?

    1) Does it happen every time?

    2) Did the report work before and it has been changed since then?

    3) Do any of your parameters or data contain characters that could be interpreted as HTML control characters?

  • 1) Yes, it is happening all the time.

    2) We just migrated to a new env. and it was working in the previous env.

    3) Parameters are Last and first name of people with "." or a "," as a seperator for last and first name.

Just to let you know it works fine in the Visual Studio.

  • So it worked on the old server.

Does the new server have a different version of SQL Server than the old?  (2008 vs 2008r2)

Does the new server have the same SQL server service packs that the old server had?

  • Is it related to settings in IE. can you try opening in diff version IE.

Or you can check the network settings (proxy,..)

  • I am still having same problem running reports getting the same error, all the reports that have long list of values in parameters having this issue.

I fixed 1 report by reducing the number of entries in one of the parameters but for other reports I need all the values for selection.
