Mounted cloud drive(page blob) getting deleted RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have Azure PAAS service implementation. In that in each Instance we have 10 customer and each customer owns a mounted cloud drive(page blob) to store the some files. This deployment is available for last one year in azure .

For last 2-3 weeks we observe that is 1-2 cloud drive(page blob) getting un-mounted from this instance .We got some error information from the System log of event viewer which is added and this error is also not consistent. Currently as work around we are rebooting the Instance daily which we remount the vhd (pageblob) again. Guest OS version-1.18 Azure SDK 1.7

Please let us know what is reason for this issue?

  • Hi,

As I know there is no expiration or such thing in cloud drive, so I think Azure storage won't delete it automatically. Do you have any code to delete the drive such as CloudDrive.Delete() or CloudBlobContainer.Delete()? Or do you create any new page blob with the same name and you have the code "pageBlob.DeleteIfExists()" to delete it?

    Thanks,

  • The page blob which is mounting the drive is available in the blob container  it is not getting deleted .The mounted drive is getting un-mounted automatically.

The guest OS version currently we have is in production role is WA-GUEST-OS-1.18_201202-01?Can this affect this kind of weird behaviours?

We are not calling any delete code anything like that?

  • Hi,

The guest OS is little bit old, but as I know there is no such bug in it. Can you check if the deleted three drives are the oldest one? Would it be possible that your blob size is full? Or do you use any tool to manage the blob and delete them? Or you may use a VM to hold the VHD.

    Thanks,

  • These drives which got un mounted some are old and some are new.

    Blob size is not full.

We used a tool to take backup of page blob(vhd) to another container but not deleting it.

We are not using any VM to hold it ,these blob are available in blob container.

We are using the CloudDrive class  for create and mounting the page blob(vhd)

  • Hi,

I think this article can explain the behavior that you experiencing: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/avkashchauhan/archive/2011/06/14/update-on-vhd-mount-behavior-in-windows-azure-vm-with-latest-windows-azure-sdk-1-4-and-updated-guest-os.aspx

Best practice is to maintain the lease for certain page blob: keeping writing something to a file in cloud drive to keep the lease, let the mounting application run all the time but not exit after it mounts a cloud drive.

  • As per you suggested we tired the first best practice that in an periodic  interval of 15 minutes we are creating a  file, writing  text into the file and deleting the file to the mounted page blob (Map drive) .But the vhd unmount is happening automatically and our issues still persists.

    Any thoughts on this?
