VS11 Beta - Add Resw file to project

    Question

  • In the guide 'QuickStart: Make your Metro style app world ready' it states the following:

To create a resource file in Visual Studio, go to Project/Add New Item/Resource File (.resw).

When following that instruction, the appearing dialog does not contain the .resw file in any of the categories. Am I missing something ?

  • Got you.

What about if you choose Visual C++, the most root in the left pane?

  • Right click the application name in Solution Explorer,

    Add

    New Item...

Select root (i.e, Visual C#) or General in left pane

You will see Resources File (.resw) in right pane

  • Thanks. I'm developing a Metro app using C++/CX and the Resources File (.resw) does not appear in any of the categories under 'Visual C++' (no other categories like Visual C# are listed either).

  • In C++, Select Windows Metro style in left pane, Resource File (.resw) should be in right pane, the last one, you need to drag the scroll bar.

  • Thanks. I resized the window to ensure I wasn't missing something, it's not listed. See the screen shot:

  • That lists it! Not really intuitive, perhaps the VS team could address that.

  • Correct, now on my machine, a later version, it is more straightforward.
