Vista 'Alone' with XPSP3 machines RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

    I'm running 2 XP's with SP3 (beta version) and they are connecting with each other just fine.
    The Global_ group comes up as Active...

    netsh p2p pnrp>cloud show list

    Scope  Id     Addr   State             Name
    -----  -----  -----  ----------------  -----
        3      5      1  Virtual           LinkLocal_{57F29CA8-E387-4007-8817-20B8D14F50DA}
        1      0      1  Active            Global_

    However the third PC (running Vista) thinks its alone.

    netsh p2p pnrp>cloud show list

    Scope  Id     Addr   State             Name
    -----  -----  -----  ----------------  -----
        3      11     1  Virtual           LinkLocal_fd00:0:1:1::/64
        1      0      1  Alone             Global_

    Any idea why PNRP on Vista isn't detecting the XPSP3 machines?

    This is a private network using “Unique Local" addressing (which replaces the old "Site Local" addressing) so Teredo is not part of the picture.
    Addressing follows the format FD00:0:1:1:<mac address>, so they are all in the same IPv6 subnet with unique IP's.

    All three computers can 'IP6 ping' each other (usual ping, not the "diag ping host" kind of ping).
    All three have their firewalls OFF and are connected through the same switch, so its not a blocked port.

    Curiously, Vista thinks a “Unique Local IPv6 address" is a linklocal cloud, yet I still have the Global_ cloud.

    ipconfig reports both the Unique Local and the Link Local addresses correctly.

    What is going on?

    Dean.

  • Hi Pritam,

    I'm not really sure why, but when I came in the next day it all started working.

    I have found that it helps to fully reboot the machines after altering the config, so maybe that was it.

    Anyway, all working now.

    Sorry to bother you.

    Dean.

  • Hi Dean,

    There should not be any issue with the PNRP connectivity between XPSP3 and Vista.

    Can you please send the following output? If you want, you can send that to me at (pritamd@microsoft.com).

    1. ipconfig /all from both Vista and XP.

    2. Register a name in all clouds in XP and Vista machine.

    3. netsh p2p pnrp cl sh st

    4. netsh p2p pnrp di pin host <hostname> <cloud name>

    Thanks,

    Pritam
