Are Microsoft.Build.Core.xsd and Microsoft.Build.CommonTypes.xsd redistable? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this question but I didn't see a better match. I'm simply looking to find out if Microsoft.Build.Core.xsd and Microsoft.Build.CommonTypes.xsd are redistable for C# applications I create.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Craig,

These two file is for IntelliSense and validation for MSBuild editor in Visual Studio. These are installed by Visual Studio in the schema cache, which can be found in the [Visual Studio installation location]\Xml\Schemas folder.

As far as I know we can customize these schemas so that you have IntelliSense and validation for custom item type names, properties, and tasks, you can either edit Microsoft.Build.xsd, or create your own schema that includes the CommonTypes or Core schemas.

Therefore, the propouse of these files is for Visual Studio. I don't think we can deploy and use these files for your software, even these files was already on your customers' machine.

Since the question is a license issue, you can call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist, and you can get more detail information from there. Worldwide customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites to find contact information in their locations.

  • Hi clichten,

Was the "redistable" something short of means "distributable"? If so, these two cannot be distributed, but can be got var licensing. For more information, please post the question on  MSBuild forum.

    Sincerely,
