  • Getting an error trying to connect to MySQL on VM:
    Connecting to MySQL Server... ERROR. Check your login credentials. unable to connect to database as root

    If you are running MySQL on an Azure VM and you want to connect remotely how do you set the password for root? Do you change
    localhost to the address of the VM server? Like
    $ mysql> SET PASSWORD FOR 'root'@'localhost' = PASSWORD('yourpassword');
    $ mysql> SET PASSWORD FOR 'root'@'openemr.cloudapp.net' = PASSWORD('globalhealth');

    Can check at http://openemr.cloudapp.net

  • Hi,
    Based on my research, you need to enter the root password in MySQL Server Instance Configuration Wizard when you install MySQL Community Server on the Windows Server virtual machine in Azure. In addition, if you install MySQL on a Linux VM in Azure, the MySQL root password is empty by default. You need to run “mysql_secure_installation” so that you will be prompted to change the MySQL root password. For more detailed information, please refer to the link below:
    Install MySQL on a virtual machine running OpenSUSE Linux in Azure
    Best regards,
