SharePoint Online in Office 365 can I access the SQL Server from Visual Studio 2015 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Can I access SQL Server database when creating an App using SharePoint Online. Is it possible to access the database from Visual Studio 2015. Please give me your feedback whether this is feasible. Does SharePoint online use SQL Server database as a back-end which is true for SharePoint 2013.

  • Hi,

It will be best to create a SQL Azure database and Sync this with your on-premise database (if you still need this). Then you can let your application connect to the SQL Azure database.

SharePoint online uses a SQL Database, all hosted in the cloud. But you can't connect to this database, because Office 365 is a SaaS application.
