  • Question

  • We are migrating from Sql server 2000 32bit on Windows 2000 Server. Yes I said "2000". To sql server 2016 64bit on Windows 2016 server.. Can someone tell me how to find problems that will arise when we do the migration along with what will happen when we change compatibility mode to 2016? Or anything other that might arise when moving

  • You cannot directly move from SQL2000 32 bit to SQL2016 64bit. First you have to SQL2005 SP4,or SQL2008R2 SP1 64 bit and then do an upgrade to SQL2016 64 bit . You need to do side by side migration. Cannot do an inplace upgrade.

For checking the issues, please download Microsoft ugprade advisor for SQL2008R2 if you want to analyze the issue at SQL2008R2 level.

For checking the issue prior migrating to SQL2016 from SQL2008R2, install Database migration assistant.
