Windows CE 7 and SMP support

Question

Hi

Due to some headlines of the Windows CE 7.0, it shall support SMP (symmetric multiprocessing).

Now I am searching for more inforamtion about this. Especially about:

- supported libraries (like OpenMP, At least there is a compile option in VS, PPL)

- Is there a way to figure out if the OS on a dedicated platform supports SMP?

- Any other special API, initialisation

- Tutorial how to write an SMP application for Windows Embedded CE 7

I am not sure that PPL would be available -- PPL requires VS2010, but to write apps for CE7 you use VS2008.  Not sure if OpenMP has a CE port.

• The OpenMP runtime is a Compact 7 component which must be added to the OSDesign by your OEM (or yourself if you build your own OSDesign).

• The best way to test if an OS supports SMP is to call the CeGetTotalProcessors() API, which should return a number greater than one. NOTE: SMP support is conditional in the Compact7 kernel, a specific build option must be set in the OSDesign properties (default value is No).

• SMP support is in the OAL which is often provided with the BSP. An MS implementation is provided in Platform/Common specifically for x86 platforms, therefore you can get MP or HT x86 hardware (i.e. Atom) to run Compact7 SMP.

• No initialisation is required at the Application level, you will basically play with the "SetAffinity" API calls to manage "who runs where".
