'whenChanged' AD attribute is missing from User Profile attribute Mapping RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We have a requirement to get all the user profiles which has been updated in last 24 hours. We tried to use the UserProfileChangeQuery and UserProfileChangeToken classes but there is known limitation ..its mentioned here.

To work around this problem, we wanted to import the "whenChanged" AD attribute to user profile, so that we can query/filter all the profiles on 'whenChanged' date time field value. But this field is missing from the AD attribute mapping dropdown. We can see "whenCreated" field in the mapping but not  "whenChanged".

We also tried to map this attribute using the powershell script as metioned in this blog. But AddNewMapping function throws “Unable to process Put message”. Even this whenChanged attribute is not getting displayed on
User Profile Synchronization Service window (miisclient.exe, located at Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0\Synchronization Service\UIShell).

    What could be the issue?

  • Hi,

Very strange problem, have tried to get the attribute but with no results. The only explanation that I can give is that "WhenChanged" is located in Global catalog but is not replicated, and maybe SharePoint is able of showing only those attributes that are replicated to Global catalog servers. The "WhenCreated" attribut is replicated to Global catalog servers.
