Object reference not set error in client machine. RRS feed

  • Question

  • we upgraded TFSW 2005 to TFS 2008, sql 2005 to SQL 2008. everything is working but from one client machine we are not able to get latest version. When we open the solution from visual studio, it is asking us for "go online" option. when we click OK, it is giving error, "Object reference not set". And project appears in solution explorer. When i right click on any page, we are not getting check-in , check-out , get latest option.

  • Hi Kiran,

First, please make sure the net works find.

Second, please make sure the TFS 2008 are started. You can verify it from IIS. Site->Team Foundation Server, make it start.

Third, in Visual Studio, On the File menu, click Source Control, then Change Source Control, Can you find if the project is bound to the server?

    Hope it helps!

  • 1. Net is working.

    2. tfs 2008 is started. Because from other client desktops tfs is connected.

    3. Project is bound to the server.

My problem only from one client syste.

  • Hi Kiran,

    Thanks for your feedback!

Could you perform the following steps which can help narrow the issue?

    1. Please verify the firewall or ports are configured correctly.
    2. Please verify the account password has not expired or is correct
    3. What's your Visual Studio vision? VS 2005 or VS2008? If you use VS 2008 and Team Explorer, have you installed VS2008 sp1? If you use VS2005 to connect TFS 2008, you can refer to http://vspug.com/wsspectacular/2008/05/14/connecting-visual-studio-2005-to-team-foundation-server-2008/
    4. Please follow the steps in Grant Holliday's Blog about how to troubleshooting connect to TFS

If the issue is still exist, please run Best Practices Analyzer and make a health check after you install the Team Foundation Server 2008 Power Tools.

    Hope it helps!

    Best Regards,
