Unexpected error during setup. RRS feed

  • Question

  • It's been suggested to post this question in this forum:
I'm installing several SQL2005 instances on a W2008 cluster and sofar there was no problem with starting setup. Now when starting setup I receive the message: There was an unexpected failure during setup...
    I found a support thread here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916760
However, the situation described there does not apply: the folders have the correct layout, I checked and used 2 different installations on several active nodes. As far as I can tell the Cluster behaves A-OK according expectations, then again, this is my first SQL Cluster in a W2008 environment, so I'm not sure.
What could be the problem here? Any things I should look into? I have tried copying the complete setup folder to the cluster, but that does not change anything, the situation persists.

  • If you are getting this error after configuring Setup which means you entered all necessary information so that Setup can start installing and then this problem occurs, then it could be that you have RDP connections to more than one node at the same time. I had this problem several times before... So ensure that you are not logged on to all nodes at the same time.

  • Tnx for answering all.
I have found some new info on what is wrong. My collegua wanted to de-install an instance, because the drive layout to our SAN was wrongly configured. Now the setup log tells me it can't find a file, because it's looking for it on the removed SAN-partition. I now try a manual de-install according to this MS-article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms180973%28SQL.90%29.aspx
I have to recreated this SAN-drive and will start the de-installation again. Hopefully this will solve the problem.
    Tnx for answering again.

  • Hello,

SQL Server 2005 requires SP2 to run on Windows Server 2008.

Please post SQL Server setup log here. You can get the log from: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\Log\summary.txt.

Also take in consideration the following:
