Visual Studio 2005 offline standalone updates - Which order to install them !? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have installed Visual Studio 2005, Then I have downloaded the following offline updates to apply, so I have tried to install them in the following order:

    1 - VS80sp1-KB926601-X86-ENU.exe

    2 - VS80sp1-KB932232-X86-ENU.exe

    3 - VS80sp1-KB971090-X86-INTL.exe

    4 - VS80sp1-KB973673-X86-INTL.exe

    5 - VS80sp1-KB2251481-v3-X86-INTL.exe

    6 - VS80sp1-KB2538218-v2-X86-INTL.exe

    7 - VS80sp1-KB2548826-v4-X86-INTL.exe

All went well except the "6" "VS80sp1-KB2538218-v2-X86-INTL.exe" which throws an error saying:

"The installation source for this product is not available.  Verify that the source exists and that you can access it."

Can any one help me here to make it install properly!

    What have I missed !?

    Thank you for your understanding.

My OS is: Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Version 2003 Service Pack 2

  • Hi tomay3000,

The error "The installation source for this product is not available.  Verify that the source exists and that you can access it." from your message seems telling us the source is corrupt. If your source is download offline, could you please redownlad the whole package to check? It seems this package needs to be corrected.

  • Re-downloaded & verified the hashes:

    CRC32: F24FF078
    MD5: 50C2518C3FE2D2573366BE3ED6437944
    SHA-1: 482066ABE208409C105BF4DD6D57E21940EB33A1

    which are correct.

The problem remains the same :(

    Any other suggestions !!!

  • Sorry for the late response, just notice this:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Version 2003 Service Pack 2

Please upgrade to XP SP3 if you want to install Visual Studio.

We need the latest OS version.

By the way, please also have a check about this blog:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/smondal/archive/2009/12/03/the-installation-source-for-this-product-is-not-available-verify-that-the-source-exists-and-that-you-can-access-it.aspx

Your error may also related to update registration corrupt, the solution is to use this tool http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971187/en-us to fix this issue.

However, to know details please check your verbose logging , you can search for your logs under %temp% folder with the name vs_update_xxxx.txt
