Reporting Service Integrated with Sharepoint RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to use Reporting Service with Sharepoint. I find some conflicting documentation, so I'm hoping someone can clear it up for me. I've installed Reporting Services and set up the database as Sharepoint Integrated mode. We have a Sharepoint farm and when I try to add the Reporting Services URL, I get the error -
    • There was an error when adding domain\svc_wtrpt01 to the WSS_WPG Windows group on WTRPT01.
      • The group name could not be found

Do I need to install any Sharepiont pieces onto the REporting Services server? Any ideas what I'm missing?

      • Thanks,
        Scott

  • To join a report server to a SharePoint farm, the Report server must be installed on a SharePoint server. This article might help - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa905869.aspx

  • Hi I have experience the same problem. From What I read from link above, it basically says I have to installed SQL Reporting Server in the server where Sharepoint located. But I am trying to use already installed Reporting Server on other server different from where Sharepoint located. Is it not possible to do that? Do I have to use make the reporting server + sharepoint on the same machine?

  • For integrated mode, sharepoint needs to be installed on the reporting server. It seems like you want to run reporting services in native mode though. Check out this article here - http://mindsharpblogs.com/kathy/archive/2008/02/01/4247.html

  • OK. So basically reporting Service will have to be installed on the same machine with the Sharepoint.

On my current configuration, I have reporting service as sharepoint integrated + SQL DB on server A and Sharepoint on B that has been configured to run reporting service integration. But when I configure sharepoint on B to connect to reporting service on A the is an errors like above.

If I also install reporting service on B, should sharepoint integration connect to RS on A or B?

  • In order to use Reporting Services in Integrated Mode you MUST install the Web Front End Componets of SharePoint on the SQL Server hosting Reporting Services.

See item #3 in this technet article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326356.aspx

Then see this article for details on how to complete the installation: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa905869.aspx
