Microsoft update problem

    Question

  • Received popup informing me of a Microsoft update to my Visual Studio 2015 Professional.  Seemed to work ok.  I rebooted computer.  When I opened VS and clicked on any of my three pinned buttons under "Recent",  all receive error messages saying "load failed"

After several experiment I discovered I can create a new project but can not import or open the old.  As I have many 1000s of lines of code (which I can see in the old project via notepad)  how can I get the new version to recognize the old?

Has anyone had this problem or know a solution?  (Version 14.0.25431.01 Update 3)

    Thanks   ....    Don

  • It's difficult to help if you don't say what kind of projects you cannot open or which error you get.

FWIW, this page specifies the list of supported project kinds:

Porting, Migrating, and Upgrading Visual Studio Projects

  • Thanks for responding.  I have 3 projects.

I have 2 web sites which I discovered can be opened via 'File' then 'Open Web Site ...' and choosing the appropriate folder.  Clicking in the 'Recent' list simply gets a not in Solution Explorer of myName (load failed) and 'The project requires user input. Reload the project for more information.'  After opening via 'File' then the pinned item under 'Recent' works.  All is OK with these.

The other is a 'Windows Form Application'.  This is where the problem is.  I get the same (load failed) message when I open the Project either through the VB interface or by double clicking the .sln file.

I can create a new Project which I did and tried importing the old code but it did not work as expected.  There seems to be a fundamental difference between the versions of VS.

    Thanks

  • Hi Don,

    Welcome to MSDN forum.

Do you mean that your windows form application met the issue when you update your visual studio professional 2015 to visual studio professional 2015 with update 3?

Update 3 fixes addressing customer feedback around performance and stability, as far as I know, it couldn't make changes to project normally. Please select 'Reload Project' to see if there is any warnings or something else and have a look at the thread:  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/29716950/the-project-requires-user-input which may has the similar issue with you. Besides, please provide detailed error message about the issue.

    Best regards,

    Joyce
