Column & Workflows Checking on when folder contents last updated

    Question

  • Can SharePoint 2013 (Designer) workflow be created to:

    • Check the contents of a folder
    • Check for the most recent last modfided/created date on documents stored within
    • Push that date to a column
    • Workflow would be triggered when an item is modified/created within that folder

If yes, guidance on how to accomplish would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Workflow can be used in items/files in folder. If you want to check if the item/file is in the folder, you could check the Encoded Absolute URL of the current item to see if it contains folder name.

In the workflow, we can use “Update List Item” action to update field value including date field.

Here is quick reference for workflow actions (SharePoint 2013 Workflow platform):

To get the last created item in the SharePoint workflow, you could use web service with CAML query.

An article about working with Web Services in SharePoint 2013 Workflows using SharePoint Designer 2013:

And in SharePoint workflow, we can change the start options. It would be triggered when an item is created/changed.

    Best regards,
