Custom Search Results

Hey SharePoint Fam!

Have a new project where the search results need to be tweaked.  Ootb default search results always show the documents and then it pulls like 20-30 characters from that file and displays under file title.  I am wanting to create a custom description field for all files uploaded where users can go in and give exact description of the file so that users searching can get better understand on what each file is.  Would this be a new crawled property I need to create?  Thanks N Advance

Hi,

Once you create a custom Description for example named "MyDescriptions" in a library, input some data for test.

And then do a full search crawl, Search Service Application will automatically create the crawled property named "ows_fieldname":

Now, you could create a new Managed Property and mapping to this crawled property and make the managed metadata searchable:

Finally, this managed property could be used in your search query and return search results.
