multiple Isolated Host an a BizTalk server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can we have multiple Isolated Host instances on a BizTalk server ? (2 BizTalk, 1 SQL server )

Are there any drawbacks creating additional Isolated Host apart from default provided BizTalkServerIsolated Host ?

Any advantage if any creating additional Isolated Host ?

    Please advise

  • Yes You can create as many Isolated Hosts as you want.

There are no drawbacks creating additional isolated host but generally it wont make any difference.

  • Yes, you can create more Isolated Hosts.

First of all you may want to create a 64 bit Isolated Host.  We usually create Low Latency Isolated 64 bit host, in which we change the polling intervals to a lower number of milliseconds.

A drawback of creating a new isolated host is that as each one will be polling the BizTalk database for any response messages you will be increasing the workload on your database, as well as probably having the w3wp.exe process using more Memory & Processing.  So don't create too many.

There is this blog Multiple Isolated Host (Host Instances) – Multiple Virtual directories – different adapters, what are the rules?   That has an interesting rule "You must create at least one IIS application pool for each isolated host."  But I think this is only correct if each Isolated Host is running under a different user, as Application Pools aren't associated with the Isolated Host, but are to the user (Identity)
