How is hosting done for online play? RRS feed

  • Question

  • With the Microsoft App store do developers have to pay for multiplayer functionality or is free online play between gamers hosted by Microsoft?

I know both Apple and Google host online content for games but I can't find documentation that spells out how Microsoft does it.

  • Do you want to know if Microsoft offers free servers for interactive play?  The answer to that is no. However, you could use Azure services to do this.  If you have MSDN account, there's a free-level of server time (I believe) that you could use to start up.

NOTE: If I ask for code, please provide something that I can drop directly into a project and run (including XAML), or an actual application project. I'm trying to help a lot of people, so I don't have time to figure out weird snippets with undefined objects and unknown namespaces.
