Downloaded MSDN ISO Files - How to Burn them to USB Flash Drives or even DVD? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been out of the loop for a few years but I got my new VS PRO/MSDN subscription and since DVDs are no longer shipped, I am downloading the ISO files.  What tool do I used to burn them?  Should I use a DVD or USB Flash Drive?   I downloaded VS 2015 Pro Update and Windows 10 ENTERPRISE ISO files.  I want to create the install "Disk" for them.  Thanks.

  • I'm surprise MS doesn't offer a tool to burn downloaded ISOs to DVDs or USBs. Had to find a 3rd party tool isotousb.exe.   Problem solved.

Microsoft does provide the tools to burn the ISO to the DVDs / USB Drives. Here is the Link

  • Hi,  I believe this MediaCreationTool.exe is to burn specificially a Windows 10 OS on a media.  Its not general ISO to USB/DVD tool.  I  have been using ISOTOUSB.EXE from http://isotousb.com/  successfully with burning Windows 10 Pro ISO, Windows 10 Enterprise ISO and VS 2015 PRO ISO  except with "Windows Server 2012 R2 w/ Update"  it fails at about 90%.  I'm going to post a separate question about it.

  • Thank you.    I have been using ISOTOUSB.EXE from http://isotousb.com successfully with Windows 10 Enterprise, Windows 10 Multiple Edition and VS 2015 PRO ISOs from MSDN until the download of:

Windows Server 2012 R2 with Update (x64) - DVD (English)
    en_windows_server_2012_r2_with_update_x64_dvd_6052708.iso

3 hour download, it failed to burn at about 90%.  I downloaded it again (another 3 hours), failed again.   It doesn't seem the SHA1 is matching using the suggested tool "sigcheck" to recalc the hash.   But then again, neither did the SHA1 match for the Windows 10 Multiple Edition ISO which was a successful burn.

What should I try?   This is so non-productive.  Doesn't Microsoft offer optional DVD?

I'm going to a friend's place who a high speed connection. Perhaps try downloading it again in less time and try a 3rd time.

I wonder if there is a possibility that the file itself is corrupted the MSDN storage end?

    Any info will help

  • The problem with the MSDN ISO

Windows Server 2012 R2 with Update (x64) - DVD (English)
    en_windows_server_2012_r2_with_update_x64_dvd_6052708.iso

and answer (using DISM) seems to be located here:
