Certified for Windows Server 2008 - Third party installers RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our appliaction uses a third party installer, Install Aware (http://www.installaware.com/) as the distribution package for our application. As part of test case 2.11.1 however the testing framework requires that any custom action taken by an MSI be documented. In our case the InstallAware package itself is making use of custom MSI actions the are not controlled by our installation (Type1, Type 242).

My question is do we need to somehow document custom actions taken by our third party installer? Aside from being irrelevant to our clients I could easily understand if Install Aware declined to detail their internal custom actions to avoid revealing intellectual property decisions. Am I correct in believing that only custom actions the we define, rather than those defined by our third party installer need to be documented?

  • Hi John

Thank you for the great question.

It would suffice if you documented custom actions created by your company.
