Is it legal to disassemble sensor's hardware? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We'd like to remove Kinect sensor from its plastic housing and to embed it into our own equipment as an integral part.

The question is whether it is legal? Can we sell this equipment? Can we legally use drivers and SDK with this partially dismantled Kinect?

  • Removing the plastic housing or tampering with the Kinect for Windows hardware in any manner voids the warranty. We cannot guarantee functionality and reliability of the Kinect in such instances and do not test against such experiences.  This makes this an unsupported experience.  We’d love to better understand your needs to inform our future efforts. Please feel free to describe your desired experience and why you’d like to embed the sensor to the following email and someone will follow up shortly. K4WPrtnr@microsoft.com
