Upgrade WSS 3.0 to SP 2010 Foundation RRS feed

  • Question

  • My intranet server is running Win Ser 2003 R2 and WSS 3.0. I want to upgrade to Win Ser 2008 and SharePoint 2010 Foundation. Is it possible to upgrade both, move the WSS 3.0 website to SP 2010, and retain the website data? If possible, I do not want to completely rebuild my website because many users depend on it.

  • You can do it, but I'd recommend against an in-place migration becuase there will be issues along the way.  Set up a test server and do an inplace migration on the test environment so you'll know what you're dealing with when you do the same to production.  Generally there is a lot of cleanup on your 2007 evironment before you're able to do a clean in-place upgrade.

If at all possible do several parallel migrations, fixing the production issues as you go along until you have a clean migration
