  • It Seems to Close a Windows Metro App you Need to press Alt+F4 and that will exit the app out of suspended mode all together though when you press Alt+F4 windows show the Background of The Start Screen but no Apps?

  • There is no way to close a Metro-style app without the Task Manager. Microsoft created the Developer Preview with the idea that users would not close apps themselves. Rather, apps will be "suspended" when you switch from one app to another or to the desktop, but it's an imperfect solution. Microsoft is listening to feedback, though, and has stated that they will address this issue in an upcoming blog post, and add a way to close Metro-style apps without the Task Manager.

This blog post (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2011/10/03/evolving-the-start-menu.aspx) from the Windows team briefly mentions closing Metro-style apps.

Alt-F4 does not close Metro-style apps in standard builds of the Developer Preview.
