Do WCF Data Services and regular WCF mix? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Just a simple question, is it possible to expose a WCF Data Service and add to the .svc file some regular WCF operations? I realise you can add Service Operations to Data Services but to be quite frank, they suck because they can only accept primitive types as parameters and are limited in what they can return. So a nice set of WCF Operations (for complex business logic) alongside the Data Service (for simple queries) would be really awesome. Any one tried doing this?

    Kind Regards,

    Neil

  • Unfortunately at the current stage the two does not mix well. WCF Data Service has its own pipeline and will not go through WCF for a large part of the request processing. However, integration into WCF is something that we are actively working on. In the future, we hope to achieve exactly what you've described there :)

Meanwhile, if you feel like we are lacking in a particular area, you can voice your opinion by voting for the feature you wanted to see:
