How to make our custom add-in safe? RRS feed

  • HI Experts,

    Need your help. We want to develop a add-in to Microsoft Outlook for one of our Customer. We want to understand the process of installing this add-in as safe in Cutomer Outlook application. Please suggest. Is any licencing is required for our Outlook add-in to install to our Customer Outlook application

  • as i explained in first response - when using .net 4 and VSTOR2010 and installing plugin to %PROGRAMFILES% - you do not have to, it is trusted by default.

  • Simplest way would be to use .NET 4.0 with VSTOR4.0 and install plugin into program files directory. This way plugin will be trusted out of the box.

    1. Is any Licencing from Microsoft is required for our Custom Plugin to install.

    2. We want to develop this Outlook add-in in Microsoft Visual Studio. Can you please tell me where we need to use .NEt4.0 with VSTOR4.0. Can you please explain how to use. Your help here is really appreciated.

    2. you should use Visual studio 2010, create new Outlook 2010 add-in project and write your code. Add installer project also to your solution, add primary output from outlook add-in and in prerequsites check VSTOR 2010 and you are done (remember to create 2 separate installer projects, one for x86 and second for x64, unless your client is known to install only one bitness of outlook).
